Downer EDI Limited is hiring Special Class Welders for an upcoming short-term outage project located in Yarwun, Queensland. This is a casual, contract-based role scheduled to start mid-August and expected to run through mid-September 2025. The role offers a competitive EBA-based pay rate of $70.15 per hour, inclusive of 25% casual loading, plus overtime penalties and site allowances. Workers on-site will complete 12-hour shifts under a structured roster, with both day and night shifts available. Accommodation or LAFHA will be provided to distant workers. This opportunity is ideal for experienced welders in the power generation or heavy industrial sector who are confident with piping, structural welding, and boiler casing work in outage conditions. Successful candidates will be required to pass a weld test and VOC prior to starting work.

Responsibilities

  • Take pipe layout and structural welding production during planned power outages.
  • Welding and maintenance of boiler casting and other important infrastructure components.
  • Make sure all welding work meets the Downer’s safety, performance and quality and quality.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors on daily tasks.
  • According to the company’s guidelines, a clean and safe work environment maintains.
  • Follow all security procedures, website rules and client protocol while staying on the site.
  • Conduct checks before starting and immediately report any danger or problem.

Requirements and Qualifications

Education

Trade certification in welding is required.

Experience

  • Previous experience in power generation or heavy industrial outage projects is preferred.
  • Welders must complete a weld test and Verification of Competency (VOC) before starting on site.

Skills

  • Strong welding and construction skills.
  • The ability to interpret engineering images and follow technical instructions.
  • Team collaboration and communication skills.
