About the Opportunity
This role is all about variety and responsibility. You’ll be the person on the ground, attending Defence sites to inspect reported issues and complete minor building works. From fixing doors and frames to investigating water leaks, no two days will be the same. When a job falls outside your scope, you’ll make the area safe and report back clearly, ensuring the right specialist is brought in. It’s practical work that requires good judgement, a strong understanding of building fabric, and a commitment to safety. Key Responsibilities

Attend Defence sites to inspect and assess reported maintenance issues, determining the best course of action.

Carry out minor carpentry and handyman repairs, including fixing doors, frames, fittings, and internal fixtures.

Investigate reports of water ingress and leaks, identifying causes and completing minor rectification works where possible.

Make areas safe through temporary repairs or stabilisation when issues fall outside your trade scope.

Clearly document all work completed and provide accurate reports for Defence records.

Liaise professionally with Defence personnel and facility managers, maintaining a positive and helpful manner on site.

Maintain high standards of safety, compliance, and workmanship at all times, following site protocols.
Qualifications and Experience
We’re looking for someone with a solid trade background who can hit the ground running. You’ll need to be self-sufficient, safety-focused, and comfortable working in secure environments.
Essential Requirements:

Trade-qualified Carpenter or a highly experienced Handyman with a strong maintenance background.

Proven experience in maintenance or facilities works, with the ability to diagnose and fix a range of building issues.

Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach to getting the job done.

High attention to safety and compliance, with a thorough understanding of safe work practices.

Good written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting and liaison.

A current, valid Driver’s Licence.

Construction Induction (White) Card.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance (or a willingness to apply).
