Paradise Within Farm on Salt Spring Island is welcoming new community members for the late growing season. This isn’t a typical job—it’s more of a lifestyle shift. If you’re someone who thrives outdoors, doesn’t mind getting your hands dirty, and is curious about permaculture or sustainable farming, this might be your next adventure. We’re a small but active community running a 3-acre, hand-worked permaculture farm on a peaceful 53-acre property. You’ll help with chickens, gardens, harvesting, maintenance, and whatever else the day throws at us all in exchange for room, board, and a real experience in off-grid, regenerative living. It’s a community-based setup, not a paid position. But if you’re looking for a new way of life surrounded by nature, this might be exactly what you need.

Our goal is to harmonize with land, each other and weather. We prioritize low -technology, hand breeding, with a focus on biodiversity, social flexibility and shared development. We’re also part of the wider Salt Spring farming scene well-connected to local markets, creative startups, and folks building new agricultural models.

Job Title

Farm Hand (Farm-stay / Trade-based Role).

Responsibilities

• Feed and care for chickens and other small livestock.
• Water, weed, and harvest crops by hand.
• Maintain garden beds, compost piles, and walking paths.
• Handle light repair or building projects if handy.
• Work in all weather rain or shine.
• Participate in community chores like cooking and cleanup.
• Support seasonal planting, pruning, and harvesting.
• Help others with their projects and receive support in return.

Requirements and Qualifications

Education

• No formal education needed.
• If you’ve studied farming, permaculture, or the environment, great but we value attitude over degrees.

Experience

• No experience required.
• Any time spent gardening, homesteading, or doing physical outdoor work is a plus.
• Open to entrepreneurial folks who want to test eco-business ideas.

Skills

• Positive and cooperative you’ll be part of a small, close-knit group.
• Can follow instructions but also work independently.
• Willing to learn and adapt.
• Physically able to lift, squat, and move comfortably.
• Respectful of shared space and routines.
• Comfortable living simply and sustainably.
• Bonus if you know a bit about repairs, carpentry or animal care.

Knowledge

• Basic farming or gardening methods.
• Composting, mulching, seed starting.
• Using tools safely.
• Permaculture principles (a plus).
• Communication in group living setups.
